More jobs per van, fewer miles

Sector Regional field service company, a fleet of service vans.

The situation

Routes were planned by hand and by habit. Vans doubled back, fuel was wasted, and each engineer fit in fewer jobs a day than they could.

What CAPIO did

We ran a route optimisation pilot that plans each day's jobs against real constraints, drive time, job windows, engineer skills, and reorders them for the shortest sensible route. It updates when a job is added or a cancellation comes in. Built on a routing engine fed from their scheduling data, delivered as a simple daily plan the dispatcher can override.

The outcome

  • Around fifteen percent fewer miles driven across the fleet *representative*
  • Roughly one extra job per van per day, without longer shifts *representative*
  • Lower fuel spend and less wear, straight to the bottom line *representative*
Small savings per van, but multiply it across the fleet every day and it is real money.
